University Hospital Martin (UNM )

Martin University Hospital has a long and rich history. Its actual structure counts 24 departments with 1129 beds. It provides complex health care in regional, and in a lot of cases national dimension. These activities are namely focused on organ transplantation program, thoracic, vascular, pediatric and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery, maxillofacial surgery, diabetes mellitus, disorders of haemostasis and thrombosis, lung diseases, cancer diseases (especially non-Hodgkin lymphomas, gastrointestinal tract tumors, urological tract tumors and prostate cancer, female reproductive organs cancer), neurological diseases, interventional radiodiagnostics and therapy.

Hospital departments play an important role in research and education in Slovak republic. These activities are supported by worldwide international cooperation. It also serves as a clinical training base for graduate and postgraduate study programs (M.D., Bc., Mgr., PhD.) of Jessenius Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University.


Jessenius Faculty of Medicine is one of the three Medical Faculties in Slovak Republic. In 1969 Jessenius Faculty was established as a separate faculty but all the time created an integral part of University. Faculty with university studies bachelor, master, doctor, post-graduate and lifelong education. It provides the opportunity to study in the academic field of general medicine in Slovak and English languages, in the course of Nursing (Master's and Bachelor's studies) and non medical fields of study (Bachelor's studies) - birth assistance, radiological assistance, public health, laboratory techniques in health care, physiotherapy and dental equipment. The Medical Faculty provides postgraduate studies in different  fields of medicine,  the graduated person obtains the title of "PhD." The Faculty has accredited departments for the habilitation and the inaugural proceedings to obtain degrees associate profesor and university professor . The Faculty enjoys autonomy in the field of education, research and clinical activities. As a part of public University, the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine functions under the auspices of the Slovak Ministry of Education.

The Faculty of Medicine has five large lecture halls, several seminar rooms, laboratories and two student hostels with a capacity of more than 1,000 beds. The Library and the Study-Information Centre provide study literature for the students and medical staff.

Laymen's brochure

COORENOR is a three-year project co-funded by the Public Health Programme of the European Commission and the project Associated Partner. COORENOR Project aims to establish a Coordinated Network between national programs existing in the field of organ transplantation, taking into account some major issues such as cadaveric donation, living donation and organ exchange.
